HOME AND OFFICE CONSULTATIONS
Home Prenatal Breastfeeding Consultation - $200
Office Prenatal Breastfeeding Consultation - $140
My prenatal consultations are ideal for those who want a healthy start to breastfeeding, including clients who have had breastfeeding challenges with a previous child. Often discussing your experience and then outlining the important steps to getting off to a great start is just what you need. Discussing what is important to focus on in the first few days and what to watch for in the first week and beyond can provide you with the confidence and concrete information to be successful. We develop a detailed care plan with very concrete tips for you at the end of the visit. As well, establishing a relationship with me as your IBCLC prior to your little ones birth can allow you to feel prepared and ready to conquer this the second time around.

INSURANCE COVERAGE
Insurance & Payment Information
At Lactation Services of Southington, we believe every family deserves access to skilled, compassionate lactation care. Unfortunately, not all insurance companies have made that easy — but we’re doing our best to bridge the gap. Below you’ll find details about which plans we accept directly, and how we help families with other types of coverage get reimbursed.
Not sure what your plan covers?
We’re happy to help you figure it out! Just contact us before your visit, and we’ll guide you through checking your benefits or connecting with our partner networks.
Aetna
AETNA:
We are in network with Aetna.
On September 1, 2024, Aetna changed its longstanding policy from covering 6 lactation visits to covering 6 lactation codes. This means that, as an Aetna-covered patient, you will now only be covered for 3 lactation visits per child, not 6. Aetna’s reimbursement for a single code barely covers half the cost of a lactation appointment, which is why all lactation consultants contracted with Aetna have historically billed for 2 codes per visit.
This policy change is infuriating. We, along with dozens of lactation consultants nationwide, have sent letters to Aetna explaining how this negatively impacts access to affordable lactation support for families. Unfortunately, Aetna has refused to revert to their original policy.
Going forward:
- Please know that Lactation Services of Southington will do everything we can to provide you with the lactation support you need and deserve.
Lactation Services of Southington New Aetna Policy (Effective 10/14/24)
- If you have had more than 3 appointments with our lactation consultants prior to 10/14/24, you will not be billed for any visits beyond the first 3. Lactation Services of Southington will absorb the cost of those additional appointments.
- For any future appointments beyond the first 3, you will need to pay our cash rate. If this rate is not within your family’s budget, please reach out to discuss your options.
- Aetna no longer covers virtual appointments, so all visits must take Place in our office or in your home.
We will continue to bill Aetna for all appointments.
UnitedHealthcare (UHC)
We partner with The Lactation Network (TLN) to provide covered visits for UnitedHealthcare clients.
Through TLN, most UHC members can receive up to six fully covered lactation consultations without any out-of-pocket costs.
To check your eligibility, visit The Lactation Network and complete their simple verification form before your appointment.
Cigna
We partner with Wildflower Health to support Cigna clients.
Through this partnership, eligible Cigna members can access covered lactation consultations at no additional cost.
Before scheduling, you can confirm your eligibility through Wildflower Health.
BCBS, Husky, and Other Insurance Plans
At this time, we are not in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Husky, or other insurance providers.
Unfortunately, these insurers do not allow IBCLCs (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants) to join their networks — even though the Affordable Care Act requires coverage for lactation support.
Because of this, we operate as a fee-for-service provider for these plans. Payment is due at the time of your visit, but we will provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
We sincerely hope that one day all insurance plans recognize the value of expert lactation care and make it accessible to every family who needs it. Until then, we’ll continue to advocate for change — and do our best to help you get the support you deserve.
HSA/FSA Payments
You can use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for your lactation visits. These accounts can make accessing care easier — and help you save on out-of-pocket costs.
HOME VISITS:
We do a limited number of home visit due to the being a buy practice. The availability is based on location and on a case by case basis. There is an additional charge of $25.00 for every 15 miles from our home base.
